ECU Interfaces

Using an ECU interface is an easy way to display or log a number of ECU parameters without the need to actually wire any sensors directly. The ECU interface translates information from the vehicle ECU to Race Technology format so it can be easily viewed either in the Analysis software or any of our displays. Below are some of the main features of the ECU interface, click on the relevant hyper-links for further information.

  • Display and log information from your ECU

  • Save money on sensors and wiring

  • Simplified wiring improves reliability

  • Use with any combination of Race Technology products and many different ECU manufacturers. Further information on configurations are available here: DL1 and ECU, DL1, DASH2/3 and ECU, DL1, DASH2/3,VIDEO4 and ECU

  • CAN and Serial variants available

  • Ready for use in road cars with OBDII connectivity*

  • Also compatible with VIDEO4 video recording system

  • Optimise your engine for any conditions on or off the track

  • Monitor your engine health on track and display any channel with the DASH2** or DASH3**

  • Review your engine parameters along side other data to get the complete picture of your vehicle performance.

Below are two examples of how the data can be displayed click on the pictures for an enlarged image.

The picture on the left shows boost pressure on track, the map colour gradient displays the different boost pressures achieved depending on track position. The picture on the right shows boost pressure and water temperature for 3 different laps in a race. During the race a head gasket failed causing the engine to over heat.

*OBDII compatibility and channel availability depends on year, make and model of vehicle
** DASH2 and DASH3 displays are available separately

ECU Configurable

We also offer a fully configurable CAN interface for customers to configure themselves (knowledge of CAN data systems required).  These interfaces are supplied unprogrammed and customers must use our software package to create the working configuration.

The CAN data transfer standard is found on most modern cars, and on relatively new stand alone ECUs and also on older motorsport ECUs. New ECUs using CAN include DTA, Solaris, ViPEC and many more. The CAN ECU interface is user programmable so as long as your ECU/vehicle has a suitable CAN data output port you can use this.

If you have an application for a CAN ECU adapter, please email sales@race-technology.com with the exact model, age and we will be able to confirm whether we have the information for it.

CAN Only OBD System

The CAN OBD system can be used on any vehicle manufactured after 1st January 2008. Many manufacturers did however choose to use CAN in their OBDII systems before that date so if your car is made a few years before that time its worth investigating whether it has a CAN or Serial system.

Universal OBD System This universal system works with both the serial and CAN data formats, so if you're unsure of the format this is the system for you. The serial OBD system was made mandatory on all vehicle manufactured after 1996 for the American market and 2001 for the European market. It was in use until January 1st 2008
