Custom harnesses often have splices for power and ground signals. Now that you know what you want to measure and where the sensors go, lay out a custom harness, and build in the splices you need into the harness.

This can look very neat and tidy if done right.

What version of analysis are you running?

I see from the release notes that on Oct 10, Analysis version 8.5.223 was released with changes to start-of-run markers, and check boxes for "use as lap marker". Might be worth trying the latest version.

Does the same .LAP file work with the data you load into Analysis? To me, you haven't described the problem you are having -- is it lap times that don't display? Is it only a problem with .LAP files that have a start/finish marker and sector markers? You say it's hit & miss -- do you always have...

There is only one magnet on the flywheel, and it's about 7" from the centerline. That's why I think the pulse width may be too small the faster the engine turns (less time for the magnet to pass under the sensor). The engine is a carb'ed Ford 1600 engine, so there is no ECU or fancy ignition sy...

Minimum pulse width on DL1/DL2 RPM input?

We have been trying to use a wheel speed sensor to sense a magnet on the flywheel of a Formula Ford 1600 engine. We are getting good RPM reading at low RPM, but at higher RPM it just stops altogether. Is there a minimum low-going pulse width that the RPM signal must have in order to be detected prop...

A setting of .5 ignition pulses per revolution would be correct if you were picking up the signal from a single spark plug wire (or a coil on plug setup). If you are using a coil/distributor and using the coil input then you would use the value of 2. So, both values could be used for a 4-stoke 4-cyl...

Random lines in GPS data

I have seen large "position deltas" that result is wide-ranging random lines in a track map view. Sometimes this is caused by logging before the GPS lock has been obtained, and in one case it was a bad mounting location that obscured the antennas view of the sky. However, sometimes it just seems to ...

If you bike has a gear-position potentiometer (GSX-R and ZX-10R do I believe), then you can just connect to the output of that sensor. Otherwise, you may wish create a math channel with something like (gear = speed/(RPM/1000)) the ouput will be a "stair-stepped" graph each level representing a parti...

What is the value of the "Ignition Pulses Per Revolution" field in Data/Vehicle Options/RPM-tab? I would expect a value of 2 would be correct for your engine. (4 cylinder, 4 stroke). The ignition normaly fires twice for each revolution of the engine. What does the RPM trace look like? Is it smooth, ...

Save the file as "SETUP.BIN" and put it on top level of your compact flash card. You need to start the DL1 with the card inserted and it will read the SETUP.BIN file and re-flash it's internal settings. You can now remove the SETUP.BIN file and the DL1 will continue to use that configuration until a...

Do you stop logging and wait a few seconds before removing the card?

Was the card freshly formatted (using FAT16) before you started logging.

DL1 Vers 7 Firmware and Setup files

We have a customer with a new DL1 that had version 7-3 Firmware installed. While it logs data, there is no GPS map drawn. A couple of observations: - With the vers 7 Firmware (either 7-3 or 7-5), the GPS Lock light flashes quickly. Using the older firmware in another using (version 5-2), we get the ...

Error -56, corrupt files when loading raw run data

We have a customer that is reporting he get's error -56 and a report of a corrupted data file when he attempts to load a data file from the compact flash. I haven't encountered this problem, so I verified that he had formatted the CF card as FAT16 before the run. Anyone know what this problem might ...
