Advice on a logging, display and video package.

Postby TCR » Fri Jun 26, 2015 4:41 am

Hi Guys,

I have a 2103 Toyota 86 GT, that I'm setting up as a road registered weekend track car. I'm starting to consider my options for some data logging and engine monitoring, but being pretty new to this sort of stuff, I'm not sure exactly what I need. Essentially what I'm looking to do is the following:

Basic data logging - Track mapping, lap timing, speed, G forces, rpm, TPS, and parameters from the cars ECU (assuming via the OBD II port).

Display - Water temp, Oil Temp and Oil Pressure with alarms set for each. Also displaying lap times and possibly predictive times and/or time slip.

Shift lights

Video integration with at least one GoPro camera (possibly two).

Will a Dash2Pro do all this, or am I better off with a DL1 and Dash 2?

It obviously depends on how much you're logging, but generally speaking how long will you be able to log with 8GB?

Hi There,

Yes the DASH2 PRO would certainly be able to do all of this for you. The dash would only be able to control one go pro camera unless you opted for the Control output license upgrade.

Data can be obtained from the vehicles OBD port, data rates can sometimes be quite slow, so for faster updating data such as RPM I would probably recommend a hardwired connection from the vehicle to the DASH2 PRO wiring harness.

It is quite difficult to say how long you could record for, but be assured that the recording time can be measured in days rather than hours and minutes, even with all channels logging at 100Hz. 8GB is an extremely high capacity, with most of our competitors only offering up to 32MB.

Kind Regards,

Thanks.

One camera will be fine for now, and I'll hardwire the RPM signal as suggested.

I just wanted to make sure we were covered for logging if we ran a 12hr race, so looks like we're covered there.

If you purchase the GPS data logging option, does it come with an external GPS antenna, or is it built into the unit?

Can you confirm that I'll need the following to do what I want to do:

Main Product: (GBP 600.00)
DASH2 PRO CAN Receive option (15 channels per option, max 7 per unit) (DASH2PROCANREC) (GBP 100.00)
DASH2 PRO GPS Data Logging Upgrade (DASH2PROGPSLOG) (GBP 200.00)
GoPro Video Support (GBP 149.00)

Total: GBP 1049.00?

Of the other options listed below, which can be added after purchase?

DASH2 PRO 4 low side drivers and 4 extra analogue inputs (DASH2PROANA) (GBP 149.00)
DASH2 PRO 6g Accelerometers (DASH2PRO6GUPGRADE) (GBP 79.00)
DASH2 PRO Advanced Options (DASH2PRODRIVERINFO) (GBP 200.00)
DASH2 PRO Built-in ECU serial interface (DASH2PROECUSERIAL) (GBP 75.00)
DASH2 PRO CAN Transmit option (DASH2PROCANTRAN) (GBP 249.00)
DASH2 PRO PWM outputs enhancement (DASH2PRODIGI) (GBP 149.00)
DASH2 PRO second serial port enhancement (DASH2PROSERIAL) (GBP 50.00)
