How do I reduce the video file size.

Postby MadMarx » Tue Jan 04, 2011 8:52 pm

After burning videos I would like to store the *.VD4 together with the *.run files to have them usable for the analysis software.

Is there a opportunity to shrink that stuff to make it more handy?

Cheers

For sure.

The best way to handle this is with this tool:

http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/ind ... 4Convertor

it's normally used to convert other formats to VD4, but you can also use it to convert VD4 to recompressed VD4s. Because the PC has lots of processing power, the quality is higher than the VIDEO4 for the same bit rate. For analysis you can take the video right down to 2Mbit and it still looks okay.

We've taken this a step further in the forthcoming v8 of the software and you can recompress to very low bit rates by reducing the resolution. So you end up with very compact files.

Kind regards,

Thank you. Does that data get asynchron from that?
I have a delay of 8.5 seconds on the first file I compressed.

Oh - really?

I've not seen that problem before. So are you used the convertor there was an error in the data/video sync? You didn't do anything else to the video file?

Kind regards,

Some files I'd worked with an external encoder but some I didn't.
All shows asynchrony after compressing.

I'm still fiddling with file shrinking.
I do use the "Media to VD4 converter" for this.
I move the slider on a bitrate of 1000-1500.
After converting the analysis software does have some trouble to use that file.
The video does hang, somtimes when comparing laps only one lap is visible the other screen is green or is pixeled or doesn't move.

Is there a proper way to reduce file size and conserving the functionality for the analysis software?

Would be very helpful as a race weekend does take 8GB of space or 20GB of space when it is an endurance one.

BTW....when the file size during recording is getting over 4GB the recording is staring with a new file but there is about 1 minute missing of the race until the new record does start...how to cure this?

Regards
Chris
