DL1 not working

Postby Dan in Saint Louis » Wed Apr 23, 2008 12:08 am

Original DL1 with orange connectors. We have used it successfully several times, and it has been stored in a closed plastic container since its last use.

Today I wanted to test it before using it on a new job, and there are several unhealthy signs:

1) The green status light blinks rapidly and randomly, not a nice steady beat.

2) The GPS light never comes on at all.

3) The red Power On LED lights normally.

4) The green Logging LED will light when the red button is pushed.

5) When connected to the Monitor software, both lateral and longitudinal acceleration graphs jitter rapidly between +1 and +2 G's.

Help<G>! Thank you.

Hi Dan,

It doesn't sounds well :(

How is the DL1 being powered? Do you get any valid data files?

Thanks

Andy

Andy, thank you for your reply. This is the same DL1 about which we corresponded by email 23 Apr 2008. It is already on its way to you as Returns No. A20080420.

The last time I used it (2007) the data files were valid. This week's tests were done with a regulated 14.0 VDC bench supply. The DL1 drew about 130 mA without the GPS antenna, about 180 mA with. I did not try to store any new RUN files since the Status light never settled down and the GPS light never lit.

Thanks again!

My DL1 has exhibited this same behavior since new. Otherwise it appears to be working fine. Should I have the unit inspected?

The status light is not a steady beat, it's more of a "syncopated rythm" ie a rather complex pattern.

I've never seen one with an incorrect status beat pattern, only "steady off", "steady on" and "happy".

Mine was far from syncopated -- it looked more like a flickering light bulb loose in its socket. Very fast, very random.

In any case, since it also would not lock on any GPS signals, Andrew has it now.

Thank you!
