I cannot upload a new layout/configuration to the DASH3.
I created an adapter cable for my Dash3 to connect to my laptop directly. The straight-through serial plug puts ground to pin 5 and +12v to pin 7.
Works great!
My laptop does not have a serial port, so I use a USB/Serial adapter.
I used the configuration software to set shift lights and created a custom screen.
Each time I try to upload the configuration, the following happens:
--> Send configuration file to Device
Window opens: Send Configuration to Device
Port: COM4
--> click on Send File
--> status: Sending bit pattern.....
(progress bar begins to fill)
--> status: Detecting Sequence
after a few seconds, error "beep", then the following happens:
--> DASH3 Configuration window opens
status: System can't detect the sequence
[OK]
[Exit]
During the entire process, the display on the DASH3 does not change.
After exiting the failed process, there are no changes to the configuration software or to the DASH3's settings.
While trying to read the configuration from the DASH3:
--> Read configuration file from Device
Window opens: Read Configuration from Device
Port: COM4
--> Click on "Get File"
--> status: Detecting Sequence
after a few seconds, error "beep", then the following happens:
--> DASH3 Configuration window opens
status: System can't detect the sequence
[OK]
[Exit]
After exiting the failed process, the configuration software clears out the configuration file (all screens & settings blank), but the DASH3 is unaffected (configuration is the same as it was before attempting to load the new configuration).
Are there any steps I am missing? How should this process work? Is it likely to be the USB/Serial adapter?
Also, it is strange that I could not find the default DASH3 layout or configuration in the program directories. Luckily, upon connecting the DASH3 and starting up the configuration software for the first time, I was asked if I wanted to use the previous configuration. I said yes, and saved it to the Dash3 directory.

No, it's the "general support forum" . If you have a problem that's urgent and doesn't get sorted here then consider phoning or emailing RT directly.
But, it sounds to me like either your USB adaptor isn't working properly, or you're telling the software to use the wrong port. But I might be wrong :p
