DL1 - No RMP input

Postby Tricky » Tue Mar 21, 2006 8:44 pm

Installed my new DL1/Dash1 today but I can not get the RPM I/P to work using DL1 5v Tacho I/P.

ROVER K series with MEMS 3. I have spliced into the tacho wire which with no load shows 3.xx Volts at idle, so I believe this is a 5V O/P. RPM reads Aprox. 275 and when the revs are increased the Dash1 seems aprox 1/3 of actual RPM.

I have read some detail on the VOB setup and the last comment appears to be from RT support that this is still work in progress.

Tried playing with the DL1s conversion formula but no luck.
Any ideas please?

Do I understand correctly that you are getting a solid RPM readout, but the scaling is wrong?

RT Support,

Yes you are correct. The Dash1 appears to show 1/3 of actual revs.

I tried moving the I/P wire to the "Spark in" and there was no change i.e indicated RPM was about 1/3 of actual. Also tried grounding the "Spark GRND" and this gave spurious readings in the 1.000s

Then tried adjusting the formula from:

O/P= 0 x I/P^3 + 0 x I/P^2 + 1 x I/P + 0

to

O/P= 3 x I/P^3 + 0 x I/P^2 + 0 x I/P + 0

This resulted in a "No Data" display on the Dash1.

Richard

The RPM/3 behavior is consistant with what I've seen from my Dash1. I suspect that there is a bug causing the input to not be in Hz.

Try changing your formula to:
O/P= 0 x I/P^3 + 0 x I/P^2 + 3 x I/P + 0

Thanks for this info.

I had the same response from Martin at RT UK. The x3 give an aprox figure, ok as a start but was expecting the DL1/Dash1 to be more accurate than my OEM Tacho.

Hi:

There should be a revised DASH1 setup utility available soon, probably posted next week as part of a revised full package, that will simplify the RPM setup and remove guesswork / fudge factors.

Thanks for your patience.
