New beta test software (v8.5) available!!

Postby Support » Thu Feb 23, 2012 6:08 pm

Hi Everyone!

We got some new beta test software available, if anyone would like to try it? This is certainly not suitable for general release, but from our internal testing in the office its been working well and now I would like more people to try it out. I is available for download from here:

http://www.race-technology.com/upload/p ... 5.0003.exe

This is v8.5, and it will install along side a normal v8 installation without causing any problems - so you should be able to use v8 for mission critical things and v8.5 if you want to try it out.

v8.5 is a fairly major rewrite of the software and as such it's likely to contain a number of errors!! Please try it out, and if you see any problems post them on here and we'll fix them as we go along.

The big differences between v8 and v8.5 are:

- the data is held on the hard drive in a "swap file" not in RAM. In practice this means that you can have a HUGE amount of data loaded at anytime
- data is not all preprocessed, it's generated as it is needed. This means that data can be loaded much faster than before
- if you make changes to filtering, change units, add user defined variables etc the run is no longer reprocessed
- it's generally faster to use, especially with large data files
- it optionally automatically only shows the variables that contain data, empty variables are hidden

This software will also support very high and low sample rates, although at the moment this and some of the other new features are hidden... we want to make sure the basic stuff is working well first!!

So please give it a try! If/when you find something please post a note on this forum.

Now that 8.5 is the official version, how do we migrate our run database?

Hello,

When your installing the 8.5 software it asks you for the location of your database.
