DL90 GPS Lock (?)

Background:

I was given a DL90 + GPS3. The kit was complete less the serial cable that connects the GPS to the DL. Last year, on the forum or via mail, I was told that that cable is a straght through DB9. I fab'd a simple ribbon cable and plugged it in. Upon power up, after a minute of so, the GPS3 status light starts flashing, a Dash-Dot sequence which I think is the # of sats. If I run the DL90 monitor program I get a screen which shows the correct lat/lon and 6+ sats. The DL90 sample light comes on.

Problem: through it all, the GPS light on the DL90 never illuminates.

What is wrong ??

Can you log and read data into the Analysis software? Does everything look OK there?

As I have never gotten things to work right, I'm not sure what to expect in the Analysis software. I can get into the logger and see old data runs in there.
