Postby BBWRacing » Tue Nov 27, 2007 7:41 pm

Has anyone setup the DL1 and Dash2 with an Emerald ECU.

If so could you send me you Dat file, as should save me some time.

Thanks

I'm using an Emerald ECU with DL1 and DASH1 but nowhere near setting it up yet. I'm just building the loom at present. Funnily enough, I'm right in the middle of emailing Karl at Emerald to ask for some tips / pointers!

Regards

Wyn

This is the response from Karl at Emarald:

The ECU's CAN bus protocol is compatible with the AIM MXL protocol.
I've had a bit of info regarding the Race Technology CAN-serial adapter for their Dash2. Unfortunately it isn't possible (from reading the adapter info I've been sent) to configure the adapter to read the AIM protocol. I am adding an general purpose CAN protocol to the K3 firmware so that it will be very straight forward to link with the Race Technology dash.

I hope to have a firmware update for the K3 ready very soon - it should be ready before the end of December. This firmware update can be downloaded into the ECU with the mapping software so there will be no need to return the ECU again!

I'm going to wire it all up over the next few weeks . I can run it then, hopefully, as I don't need the two to talk to each other to run it - I can get most of the engine parameters from the ECU and I'll use the DL1 / Dash1 to measure the oil pressure and temperature.

Regards

Wyn

Thanks for the update.

I'ts going to take me about 4 - 6 weeks to finish building the engine and installing etc.

So hopfully the new firm where will be out them.

If not will just have to fit a few duplicate sensor's

In the end, I sent the ECU, logger and dash off to Emerald.

Karl is having some 'fun' getting it all working but he's optimistic!

I'll let you know.

Hi there, I'm going to be in the same boat soon. I've also got emerald, did you get it working ok in the end?

Do you have the K3 ECU?

Cheers

Hi Jim

It works!

I've not had it running on my car yet as I haven't finished the installation but Karl at Emerald has had it all working!

Where in South Wales are you?

Hi Wyn, I'm in Bridgend, (nobody's perfect, but I'm still allive)

I take it you have the latest K3 ECU, as mine is not, and it's slightly too old to upgrade.

For the moment I think I'm just going to share the 5v output from map TPS and MAP sensor, and have seperate sensors for water and air temp.

Hi Jim

Nothing wrong with Bridgend - I've spent many a happy weekend at Llandow and I have friends all over the area. My family originate from Maesteg and Blaengarw so I know the area a bit!

I managed to upgrade my ECU - it was only just new enough!

I used the Emerald in exactly the same way you are intending and it worked fine with the DL1.

What car is it in?

We now also have a serial decoder for the Emerald ECU, so you have the choice of CAN or RS232.

Does this work with the Non K3 ECU? (ie not the latest, as mine can't be upgraded to the latest version)

I'm just about to start setting up a DL1/DASH2 + Emerald in my Caterham, just sorting out the wiring so hopefully will be getting it up and running in a few weeks.

Guess I need to get the CAN adapter as I don't have that yet, any how much they are?
