remote GPS lock indication

Postby _Nathan_ » Fri Apr 25, 2008 5:42 pm

Hello, I've got a DL1 (latest one) wired to my car and have placed the unit in the boot as when the cage goes in I won't have access to the glove box and I couldn't think of anywhere else for it to go whilst being hidden.

I have a remote start-stop button on the dash and all is working fine but I'd like a remote GPS lock LED so I know I have a lock before I start logging - is there a way this can be done?

Thanks

Yes, this would be a nifty feature. Perhaps a special flash of the remote log status light would work.

It turns on as the unit powers up, and it turns on when logging. But a double flash every so often with a GPS lock would be really great. Two second interval, then two quick flashes, two second.... etc

Also, just a thought, would it be possible to start the datalogger when a good GPS signal is received? In Analysis it's possible to see the Signal Quality, and therefore it could be used to trigger logging when the quality is better than a certain amount?

However, I suspect both of these issues can't be done with a mere firmware update - if they can do let me know! Might be time to bother upgrading my firmware!

Sorry to pry, but why do you want to hide the logger?
Road car and you don't want it pinched, perhaps :?:

Seeing the lights isn't the only reason it is nice to be handy.

Yeah, it is a road car, trying to keep the interior "wife friendly" so stealth install is the way forward.

Understand. A cage is not a concern?

My wife is well disposed towards the DL1. She calls it Mr Squiggle:

Cage is fine, will have a removable front half for day to day driving.

Update:

Unit sent back to RT who will get out the soldering irons and add an output for me - might lose the warranty but great service IMO!

It's easy to do this sort of thing on your own too.

I used my DL1 in various open top cars. So the dim low viewing angle LEDs don't cut it. I added a green incandescent light and relay for the logging status signal. It works GREAT and is visible at 12 Noon from amy angle.

Hi,

Am I missing something here? The DL1 already provides a "Log Status" output. All that is needed is to connect a diode or relay to this to show whether logging is happening or not. See the help file - Hardware - DL1 - How do I? - connect a logging indicator.

I think the OP wants to see if there is a GPS lock, not the logging status....

Duh, so I was missing something. When I re-read the first post I now see what is needed.
