DASH 2 Alternator lamp

Postby sventen » Sat Jun 07, 2008 3:12 am

Hi, The alternator lamp in the DASH "glows" like if the altenator was bad and it only delivers 13.7V. When connecting a standard lamp (~3W) things works nomal and it delivers 14.4V. Anyone seen the same problem with DASH2? Solution?

I had this when I first installed my Dash 2; it appeared the alternater wasn't seeing enough resistance from the Dash's LED, (it was expecting that of a regular bulb), & hence not charging properly. IIRC, I measured the resistance of the old charging light bulb and added an equivalent sized resistor in series with the LED. Problem solved.

Interestingly, when I changed to a lightweight type (Daihatsu style) alternator, it worked fine without the extra "load" resistor.
