Is it possible to power the previous Serial CAN adapter off the serial connector as with the newest CAN adapter? Of course you would need to also add the power wires to the terminator for reflashing/programming.

I'm looking to simplify as I rewire things.

Yes, you need to connect the power wires for the adapter through to pin 7 for +12v and to pin 5 for gnd on the d-type connector. There will be enough cores in the wires to do this without using the figure 8 power cable, but you might have to cut the ends of the connectors and start again to have enough spare wire to do this.
