Hi peeps..

Just a quick question.. The grey 5 volt reference output wire goes were?

For the DL1 or Dash2....?

It powers sensors. Need to take care as it doesn't have a lot of current capability.

A lot of people use "linear voltage regulators" from Radio Shack or Digikey to power sensors. Cheep and effective and you won't fry your $$$$ gizmo if you hook it up wrong or short something to ground.

You can also use it to check the calibration on the analog inputs. Just hook it up to an analog in and it should read out 5VDC.

For dash 2 installation in a Toyota celica gt4 st185. 1992. Would Putting in the linear voltage regulators enable me to connect to 12v? What other 5v could be uses? ( generally)

Will this do the job? Max out put 5v/50Ma.. Just needs wiring inline from a 12v power source?

You need to know what the voltage requirements are of the sensors you are powering. Some are 5VDC, some don't matter.

You also need to know if they are ratiometric or not. Ratiometric sensors scale the output voltage based on the input voltage. i.e., the output voltage will vary if the input voltage does - i.e., you need a stable supply voltage, so don't just hook it up to car power.

You can power the Dash2 off the car though. (I think there is some confusion here. The 5VDC is only to power sensors, not the dash. The dash runs off car voltage. 13.8vdc typically.)

If you are running more than 1-2 sensors you will need something more like this:

~1-2 amps is better. Get a small heat sink. I'm pretty sure there are retail electronic supply stores. At least there were in London a few years ago when I was there on business. Should be just a few pounds in parts to get a small power supply made.

So will I need to install regulators on all the analog inputs and the 5v ref?? Sorry I'm a little stupid when wirings concerned.

No, 5vdc powers the sensors. Nothing more complicated than that.
