gear position indicator Dash2?

Postby 370steve » Tue Aug 27, 2019 9:55 am

I am having set up problems with the GPI, i have all other functions running correctly (speed, revs, etc etc )
but after entering the gear box ratios into the relevant box, i only get first and second gear indications on dash!
am i missing something?

Firmware(s) all up to date?

Can you look over a logged file in Analysis?

Check speed, RPMs, Gear and GPS pos acc. Can post to cloud or do a screen shot if you'd like.

Did some testing as I do not normally use the GEAR variable on my Dash 4 Pro display or in analysis.

Yes there is some sort of issue to sort out...apparently.

Sitting idling at a traffic light..good GPS signal...level ground, no motion. I see the gear display on the D4P go up and wind up in 10th gear. Yet in the Dash configuration I have all of the proper gear ratios and the tire diameter in place. Sometimes 1-2-3 can seem to work...but then it upshifts to 4-5-6 on it's own once u pass 3rd gear, and it does not like to downshift. Sometimes showing 7-8-9-10 despite 6 speed being entered. Not sure if "GEAR" in V8.5/353 Analysis is set up right...but it shows the correct N/A or 0 gear since i am sitting stationary in neutral. Yet at the same time the display shows higher gears and triggered a HIGH alarm once it went past 6th gear. I'll log some more.

Something might need attention in the DL1 to Display functionality in Dash 2 and Dash 4s RE the GEAR variable? Since while idling the N/A or 0 signal would seem to call for a "-" to show in the dash.

Off for a drive...at idle display started out in 10th gear flashing a warning i put in for 7th and up...after awhile driving along it settled into 6th, which I was using. So i log that and then do 6-5 downshift..then 5-4....then back to 6th. The entire time the gear displayed as 6th. Analysis shows no change for 5th gear. Shows 4th tho, but display showed 6th since it never changed. I may try making up an equation or something as this caught my interest. Gear ratio table and tire sizing seem to be okay, so does GPS pos acc (2.7-3) and the RPM feed.

Looking at this some more...one of the factors could be speed accuracy. Maybe add on a 3rd reference such at the speedometer feed?

Anyway here are some graphs comparing a run logged with two different GPS devices. What I call delta is Speed - GPS velocity raw. I made a D4Pro screen to watch that as I drive around for a few days. Upper left is GPS positional accuracy, and below that is err which is the delta mph I noted. When delta/err settles during a few datalogs...the maps that had been unusable (car driving in lake) come back to life hence I thought I'd plot that.

JRH, no i am still having the same problem!
I have entered the gear box ratios from the Suzuki manuel, speed and rev functions are correct, but i am only getting gear position "1" and "2" on the dash, position "2" usualy comes on when in third gear, then stays untill back down in first!!
