wheel Speed Sensor

Postby Jimster » Thu Apr 10, 2008 3:13 pm

I'm looking for some small wheel speed sensors (I've already got some like RT use, but there too big for my application)

is there any reason why this sensor would not work

http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/54441.pdf

I see the max switching speed is 10kHz, is this going to be ok, (I will only have 4 pulses per wheel revolution)

Motec have 7/16 x 20 threaded Hall effect sensors!
Does any one know where to source these little wonders???
Motec must purchase them somewhere, I believe the USA.

I don't see why not... I believe the the Motec ones are based on the standard GT101 hall effect sensor.

I assume you mean like the stack ones?

These would be easy to mount in my situation, any reason why these would not work??

Hi,

The only thing that doesn't look ideal is the switching frequency... 2KHz is a bit limiting isn't it?

Thanks

sorry to sound dumb, but is 2khz 2000 times a second? as I'm only using four pulses per revolution, would I be going out of range of this sensor?

Jimster,
That is the style but motec 7/16 thread, I am not sure about motec specs!

The limit on the DL1 input is 2kHz (2000 times per second), assuming 2m (6 ft) per wheel revolution, at 4 pulses per revolution that gives you up to 500 revolutions per second, giving a maximum speed of 1000m/s, which is 3600km/h,or about 2200mph.....

To work out the approximate number of pulses per wheel revolution you can get away with, just divide 9000 by the maximum speed in mph, so if you go up to 140mph, you can have up to 64 pulses per revolution.

I see the output on these is PNP, and votlage is 10-30vdc.

So I assume I simply give the sensor
Ground
12v
and connect the third wire to the DL1?

Do I need a voltage divider?

The DL1 will be fine with 12v going in on the frequency input.

would these also be ok to be connected to the dash2? As I would like the odometer working.

Geartooth sensors > Speed Sensor GS1005-1007

have ordered 4 of these sensors from Digikey.com US website as Cherry the manufacturor indicated there the only stockests

ill keep you informed of how they operate

Ps 4 of these with shipping and handling currently is only 83 Pounds which is quite cheap i belive

Yes, a 12v input on the DASH2 for the frequency input is also fine.
