equation for oil temp and oil pressure

Postby MAC Racing » Tue Feb 10, 2009 5:29 pm

I have the sensors from race technology for oil temp and pressure. In the help it gives the oil pressure equation for bar and the temp for C. I need for PSI and F. Anyone have these?

Conversion

To convert Bar to PSI, you multiply the BAR by 14.503.
The equation in Bar is (x - 0.5) / 4 * 10
So you (x - 0.5) / 4 * 145.03 to get PSI

To convert C to F, you multiply the C by 1.8 and add 32.
I didn't find the equation for the temp sensor in the Help, so you will have to do the conversion yourself.

Are you using Race Technology loggers? Because I believe the conversion for their 'own' sensors is included in the setup/analysis softwares. However, I do sometimes use a manual equation, just in case the built-in equations get corrupted, as happened to me one after a software update.

Thank You. When I get home I will post the equation I have for the temp sensor so anyone else interested will have it.

I am using the DL1 and thought the conversion for their sensors would be in the software but there are a number of options none labled as race-technology. In the help it says to use the equation so I decided just to use the equations.

Paul, your avatar says St. Charles IL, are you going to attend the performance show this weekend there? I will be there with the Midwestern Council with the corvette race car on display.

The equation I found in help for the oil temp is 1.7958x^4 - 20451x^3 + 83.08x^2 - 166.53x + 193.97 = C
So F = (1.7958x^4 - 20451x^3 + 83.08x^2 - 166.53x + 193.97)*1.8 + 32

Hopefully that seems correct.

I think what Tristan is getting at is that for a lot of variables you can choose the units in that are used by the software. I personally haven't looked at this (I don't have a temp or a pressure sensor in my setup).

Mac,
I'm assuming you are talking about the Chicago Auto show? I've been there most years, but I think this year we may miss it. If I do make it will probably be next week on a weekday evening.

Actually I was talking about the race performance expo at pheasant run. I have never been but I was surprised at the number of vendors. It runs sat and sunday and I will be there both days it looks like.

OK the problem goes on. I used the DL1 software and inputting the equations was no problem. I am now also using a Dash 2 and in the set up program it does not allow for any equation to be put in place. It has blanks for the equation (polynomial i believe) and that is not the equation I have for pressure and the temp has more factors than allowed in the dash software.
So now what, I need the dash to work also.
Both the dash and DL1 software have sensor equations built in but again I am not sure if these are the sensors I have from race technology.

If your sensors came from RT then it's very, very, very likely that they are the ones for the built in equations. A quick phone call with the numbers on the sensor would confirm this for sure.

I spoke with Al at race tech USA today. He said the sensors ordered from him are the ones found in the DL1 and Dash programs. It would make sense but it would also make sense for it to be listed in the help to use the preprogrammed function and not give an equation then.
