The only portable, ready made, straing gauge amp that I've seen is made by Stack, though I'm sure the other (Pi, etc.) might also make them.

The circuit for amplification is a pretty basic op amp. TI makes a chip already to go - INA122 - about $7 at Digikey, probably another 5-10 for the rest of the stuff to make it work. INA111 will also work.

im pretty much looking for something that is "plug and play"
i am a bit inexperienced, to try and build anything.

ive seen a few people on here talking about it, and was hopeing i could get one of them to chime in.

This would be a great project to start learning!!!! :)

$15-20 all in (less strain gauges) isn't that much money - assuming you have basic solder tools.

The essential instructions are in the data sheets for the ICs.

The hard part about strain gauges isn't the electronics, it is placing them in the right place in the right way. Definitely some art to it.

What are you trying to measure?

yeah ive been playing with strain gauges for a few years now...

The main reason we are tying to get this goin is; the equipment we are using is stone age and post test analysis is a major pain.

also, if we can get some strain gagues to work with our DL2, then we can measure g-force, suspension travel, speed, wheel speed, and strain all at the same time.

we are testing off road vehicles for a (hopefully) well known company

what im guessing at is; it seems most apms require more then what the DL2 can provide (voltage wise, aux 5v max 100mA). and im wanting to have at least 8 channels for strain gauges.

i think i like these but i'm not positive that they will work:

Digikey sells regulated power supply chips for <$1 each. Just do a search on "voltage regulator" or "7805" for 5V, "7810" for 10V, etc. They're easy to set up. My regulated 5V source provides up to 1.5 Amps.
