wheel speed sensors on dl1

Postby zx10r14 » Tue Apr 06, 2010 3:33 pm

i've connected the rt sensors to a motorbike and wired them into frequncy 1 and 2 on the dl1.
what numbers do i have to put into the frequncy channels?
how do i st it up to read the correct speed?
the rear wheel is going of the brake disc bolts, as is the front, the rear wheel has 4 bolts and the front has 5.
i'm getting some high figures when i spin the back wheel and the figures don't come back down to 0.
any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Firstly you have to know your tyres diameter. Then just make two new user defined variables on Analysis software. Go -> Data -> Variable Manager -> User defined variables. If you are using hertz for freq 1 and 2 and you want to see your speed in kph, then the formulas should look something like below.

Front_Speed: (VAR_0300/5)*3.14*front dia*3.6
Rear_Speed: (VAR_0301/4)*3.14*rear dia*3.6

Where VAR_0300 and 0301 are your frequency channels and diameters are in meters.

After doing the formula, you may want to go for a drive and compare the GPS speed with the wheel sensor speed to ensure they are calibrated properly.

You can also calculate the tire diameter by going for a GPS measured distance and turning on pulse counting. Easy to get pulses per km or mile.

(assuming your moto is street legal that is)
