De-Pin Oil Temperature Sensor?

Anyone know how to de-pin the plug for the oil temperature sensor? Both the wires on the connector fatigued and I need to repair them, can't figure out how to get the pin out.

BTW, the wires on that sensor harness are just too fragile. In 4 years of racing this setup I've gone through three wiring harnesses; this is the fourth failure. The wires are too small and fatigue at the pin. Would be nice if these could either get some better stress-relief (shrink wrap at the pin housing?) and/or larger gauge wires.

Same thing with my RT ambient temp sensor. I think I've fixed it 3 or 4 times. It's a bosch sensor and hence a bosch pigtail/plug.

I made a tool from some thin steel to get the pins out. If you have a bosch connector, google around for the tool and make an extractor.

For future reference, Kyle referred me to the "correct" tool:

I found a cheaper way to do the same thing by bending a 1/16" aluminum cotter pin so that both legs could be inserted top and bottom. Pushed it in, pins popped right out.

Trying to decide how I'm going to strengthen these wires. May try heat shrink over the wire and connector, or might try Kyle's idea of potting the whole connector with silicone sealant.

As a final follow-up...as I was repairing these wires today, it was apparent that these pins were not installed correctly. The tips were were soldered into the pins, however the stress-relief was not crimped over the insulated wires. I'm actually shocked that these wires lasted as long as they did before fatigue-failing.

I strongly encourage Race Technology to contact their supplier for the wiring harness for the oil temperature sensor to ensure that these harnesses -- which are decisively not value-priced, especially given you have to buy a sensor with them -- are better constructed for the rigors of automotive motorsports. Or even for the street.

If anyone needs a couple Bosch oil temperature sensors, let me know. I have spares.
