Airspeed/Pressure Differential Sensing

Postby phantomjock » Wed Feb 13, 2019 1:36 pm

I am considering adding an integrated pressure sensor suite to my data collection. I say suite, as I will want to take differential pressure readings at several locations at once. The sensors I am considering are of the MPXV5004G series piezoresistive transducer family.

1. Power supply - The DL-1 Club has 2 @ 5v outputs. Should I use these - or best to add an external step down regulator to supply these devices?

2. The analog versions are susceptible to a lot of noise. But they are simple 3 wire connections, +5v, GND, Sig. The digital are much cleaner but are 4 pins; +5v, GND, SCL, SLA. My question regarding a 4 pin connection - can I just not connect the SCL (serial clock - timing) and let the DL-1 sort it out - or is there some recommended means to connect a 4 pin sensor? I find 1, 2, and 3 in the Knowledge Base, but not 4 pins. Is this possible?

Thanks.

Cheers - Jim

As an aside, I also have 2 brake pressure sensors similar to these

They are 3 wire so no problems there - but the same power supply question.
Working Voltage: 5VDC
Output Voltage: 0.5-4.5 VDC
Sensor material: Carbon steel alloy
Working Current: <=10 mA

Having difficulty inserting the images - but I hope "you'll get the picture."

I am not sure what you mean on the four pin connector. The one with the SCL and SDA pins is an I2C sensor which you can not connect to the DL1, there is no way it can communicate directly with that.

If the sensors need a 5v supply then you will be fine with the output from the DL1, this is a well regulated 5v, there is no real advantage to fitting an external regulator.

Thanks - My question was related to the I2C. You've answered that.
I'll go with the Analog version (cheaper) and 3 pin, +5v, GND, SIG.

@phantomjock did you ever get this set up working? Which differential sensor did you use in the end?
I'm looking to do the same type of thing but was looking at Honeywell sensors. Something in the ±2.5Mbar, ±250PA or ±1" H2O range, but am unsure of whether to go HSC or SSC.
