HI all,

I'm just setting up a second hand DL1 and Dash 2 combo.

I thought I had it all set up OK but got this weird trace on all 4 runs yesterday.

I'd done a lap of my block and got a good trace the day before with no real difference in the setup.

I got the exact same image from all four runs which would make it seem like it's not random noise.

I remained on the track at all times and don't recall an ocean crossing so I think I've set something up wrong.

Any ideas?

Pete

That looks like a bad GPS lock. How is your antenna mounted? You can also get damaged cables which will do that, but not look damaged.

Australia has some GPS reception issues, contact RT direct for their recommended fix.

@jlucas, I'll give that a try, thanks.

@osborni

I don't think it's a cable or GPS lock issue.

I don't think the previous owner ever used the GPS antenna, it was still sealed in the bag as the factory shipped it. So it's effectively brand new and I took extreme care in mounting it.

The DL1 was powered down between runs and I waited for GPS lock before hitting the logging button each time.

Antenna was mounted on the roof about 4 inches in from the edge near the B pillar.

Metal roof? If not, you can get some ground reflection problems.

Yep, it's a metal roof.

Support are on the case now. I'm sure it's just something I've configured wrong.

You are probably left with calling RT to discuss GPS issues down under.

After a bit of back and forth with support and some experimenting with settings I'm now getting this sort of result.

Seems like GPS issues in Oz are addressed by the 20Hz GPS option and that's the option my unit has.

Armed with that info I changed to these settings

It's all slowly beginning to make sense now.

Quite a steep learning curve, but powerful stuff once you're in the mind set.

Hi Peter

Does this mean I am not going to be a happy camper with my 5Hz DL1 living in the land of Oz?

I started another thread (without seeing yours) about issues at Wakefield Park over Easter.

Thanks
Bill

Bill, I believe it's a no cost for Oz customers, check with RT to be sure.

Hopefully we are all sorted out on these issues - I've responded to the multiple threads on the forum I think? If there are any remaining issues please email me directly for immediate assistance andrew@race-technology.com .

Try to cut us a little slack - it's been a Easter holiday and a very busy time of year, we are doing our very best to keep up!! Please try to avoid multiple posts of the forum, emails and instant messages to different staff on the same topic - it makes it really difficult to work out who has answered what Sad

kind regards, support
