5v reference on dash 2

Postby capricol » Wed Apr 15, 2015 7:08 pm

bit of a newbie question, but how many sensors will the 5v reference on the dash 2 support. I have rt coolant temp sensor, rt wheel speed sensor, vdo dip pipe fuel sender and an aem oil pressure sensor to connect up. Do I simply add the max milli amps each sensor will use and see if it is within 50mi amp recommended max for the 5v reference output? If the 5v reference cant support all 4 sensors what then? can I add another 5v output somehow? I think the coolant temp and wheel speed sensors amount to 21 mil amp combined, not sure about the other 2 yet .

Your VDO sensor will consume a relatively high proportion of your 50mA. Check the resistances.

I bought a precision 12V-5V converter for about £7 to drive my dip tube to ensure i was well inside the RT recommended current draw.

ok. had a quick look on ebay, and there are plenty of converters. is it a simple job wiring one up?

Yep. 12V in. 5V out.
