|
|
I'm installing a Dash2 and a DL1 and removing all other gauges.
In order to make the system fault tolerant of the DL1 failing, it would seem to make sense to wire all the sensor that I cannot live without (oil pressure, water temp, RPM, oil temp, fuel pressure) into the Dash2's analog inputs. That way if the DL1 fails at some point during the weekend, I may not have the ability to log data, but at least I will have gauges (and be able to race).
Thoughts? Problems?
Thank you!

Thats a perfectly sensible thing to do and presents no issues. The analogue channels from the DASH2 can be logged by the DL1 data logger, information on how to set this up can be found here: http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/index.php/HowDoI/LogTheDASH2Inputs _________________ ---------------------------------------------

Thanks for the quick reply.
I see that the Dash2's analog channels can be logged by the DL1.
If I wire the tach signal into the Dash2 can RPM from the Dash2 also be logged by the DL1?

I did what you described. Be aware that the data resolution and sampling frequency seams to be lower on the Dash2 then the DL1. Not an issue for your standard pressure/temps from the motor, but something to be aware about.
I run all my sensors off an independent power supply - so the DL1 and Dash2 are not powering the sensors.
I run one wheel speed sensor to both the DL1 and Dash2. _________________ BMW 2000 MCoupe |

Osborni.
Do you have the RPM signal into the Dash2 or the DL1? If the Dash2, is it logged?
Also , can you be more specific about the analog input frequency and resolution into the Dash2?
Support, can you confirm if the A/D converters differ from the DL1 to Dash2?

The resolution is about the same, but the sample rate on the DASH2 is fixed at around 30Hz, compared to up to 100Hz on the DL1. _________________ ---------------------------------------------

Thanks for all the help guys.
Does the DL1 record RPM when the RPM is input only to the Dash2?
Is this the preferred configuration (RPM into Dash2 only)?
Thanks again!

I can't remember specifically if i run an RPM to both the D2 and DL1 - car is in long term storage for the winter (ending soon!!!). But I'm pretty sure that i run it to both. In any case, I get good data and a RPM readout with the DL1 off. _________________ BMW 2000 MCoupe |

IIRC yes it does, anything going in the dash is fed to the dl1 via the serial.
My preference would be to use the dash inputs first so if you want to loan out the DL1 or something you still have into coming into the dash. _________________ Jeremy Lucas
