How can I edit a .lap file so that
a) it can be used in reverse i.e on a run the opposite way back down the course
b) so that I can re-position some markers which are not in the right place and appear in a different position to the beacon input?
I have a problem in that on some long open courses I can record over 40plus markers in a .lap file. Trouble is i can load them into v 7.1.17, but when I need to edit or resave them, the software says there are too many!! I need the ability to save at least 50 markers at a time.
How can I fix this or edit the file outside the RT software. I really want to retain the marker names too. Otherwise I have to keep renaming each time they are loaded. |

Not really possible using .lap files as they currently exist -
#1 the markers are directional
#2 the saved .lap file is limited in size and attributes for compatibility with our display hardware.
Probably the best approach is to create what you need in Analysis, possibly including two sets of markers, one facing each way, then "Save All" resulting in a .raf file. If you load this file prior to loading new data it will bring with it your full set of markers.
Hope that helps - _________________ Al Seim

I'll second that request.
Al, do you know if this topic is on the programmer's radar screen?
For us open course guys it is actually pretty painful to delete a marker and add a new one with the 'start of run' and 'end of run' names so all of the software features work correctly. There is no way of doing this and knowing with absolute certainty that the marker is in the same spot. _________________ Jason Kolk

Jason:
It is on the radar screen.
In the meanwhile, it IS possible to precisely replace the "previously start or end of run marker" with a new, correctly designated maker. Use the "+P" (Add a marker programmatically) icon, then select "Add a marker after" "by time" with the time as 0. Select the marker that should be the start or end of run marker in the pulldown. (Might want to make the new marker a bit shorter than the old one for easy selection for deletion). Select "start of run" or "end of run" in the dialog box. Once the new marker(s) are in place, delete the old ones.
It's still a workaround, I agree, but pretty quick to accomplish. _________________ Al Seim

Al, thanks for confirming that they're looking at this.
Your method is good to know. I didn't think of attacking it that way. Thanks for that. _________________ Jason Kolk
