I assume you definetely had a reasonable Internet connection running at the time? Originally the R-T software timed you out to quickly.

Improvements were made over several releases.

I've had no problems with all recent releases.
Do you uninstall with the R-T utility before updating Question

When you coped your settings over, did you copy over any existing RT files (other than perhaps the default lay our file)?

Nothing has bitten me on the bum yet with the current download.

Save your current Vehicle Options, Variable settings and screen layouts using File>Advanced Loads/Saves etc to .car, .var and .lay files.

Uninstall everything R-T by going Start>All Programs>Race Technology v7>Other>Uninstall.

Install the current download package.

Load a few .run files, not .raf, and see if the Google map feature works. Be patient. If your internet connection is slow it could take minutes.

Smile Yes => load your saved .car, etc one at a time and see if you still have Google...

Crying or Very sad No => ring up R-T and ask them why not Exclamation

I'm now experiencing a similar issue, but only with zooming. Once it happened with a full circuit but that was with quality set at high. It now seems usual that the higher the quality, the less you can zoom. The problem for me is not consistent region to region, but it's not a serious problem. Smile

I suspect that the different resolutions or quality that Google Maps have has a bearing on this, as does the amount of Internet traffic that neither we nor R-T can influence.
In the early days of the feature, it seemed like there was a simple 'time out' setting that was too tight. I'm not so confident that this is what's happening now, but if it is, we should request a user selectable time out period as a software update.

What do you think Question

If it's a time out issue, it seems not a simple one, because I get the unavailable now message sometimes after less than a minute... it seems... have not actually measured it... but I feel confident in stating that the period to message is quite variable.

if i leave it set long enough it will eventually load...

i tried to load one at high rez, and it took it about 14 minutes to eventually load.... (that would be a long time for dial up Confused)

try loading a high rez one... start it, and then just walk away..
even the quality looks different, then say it did 2 months ago...

did something change that i was not aware of? RT? or Google...???
maybe with google earth being so previlant now, its slowing things down...

what would be nice is a user selectiable maping service.. Google surely isnt the only one with satalite pictures, i know maps.live. com (MSN version) is about the same thing....

From my perspective, a mapping service option might place too much burden on R-T, but then I do not experience your delays... Shocked
Idea Perhaps, you could email me (rotoflow at optusnet dot com dot au) your run that has taken 14 minutes and I'll see if it challenges my "resources".

As far as I understand it, from a source at RT, once "map" data has been downloaded from Google it is stored on RTs own servers, susbequent requests will then download from there.

If a map segment has been downloaded already (by another user) then the initial download would be from RTs server (which may be slower, in some parts of the world, than Google).

This was mainly done as Google has a limit on how many data requests you can do before it blocks your IP address for a period of time. This is not a problem for one trackmap and a couple of corners/zooms but you soon reach the limit and for that period you cannot get any more map images.

I believe you are able to see what server is being used as it says something like "downloading from cache" (for RT server), "downloading from internet" for Google and (not sure on this) "loading from cache" if loading from previously "got" images that get stored in your cache (on your PC)

This makes some sense of what I see happening on my machine, but I hadn't concentrated hard enough to notice the different cache retrievals.
The newer "not available at this time" message might be generated by hitting Google's limit, after which time the next attempt comes via RT (perhaps).
However, when I persist at seeking more detail, by stepping down a level in quality after being blocked, I see return visits to the Internet with incrementing download numbers.
Confused
Even when the backgroung loads, reloading it by returning to Options can generate further Internet loads and incrementation.
Sometimes this apparently yields more detail.

so yeah im still having problems with this

it says the whole downloading from cache, and internet... but it still takes LITTERALLY 5-10 minutes to get something, and dont even try and zoom or move around.

man this would be sweet if it worked like it used to. is there really that many more users thats its slowing it down that much? i remember like a year and a half ago it would take 2-3 seconds for a map to load.

i e-mailed mr. Durant a few times about this, and he said he would look into it but think that was like 4-5 months ago Razz

If you download the latest software release from our website you should not have any further issues with the map download.
