Speed Options
This new “speed” tab was added into version of analysis 8.2.12+ to give more detailed control over how speed is calculated in the software. Note that speed is also used in the calculation of distance and track map, so if there are problems with speed – then it will also affect these variables.
There are 5 options for how to calculate speed. For nearly all typical cases, the speed should be calculated from either GPS only, or more commonly a combination of GPS and accelerometer information.
In special cases where maybe GPS data is particularly poor or even missing altogether then it might be useful for also use wheel speed either in isolation, or combination with GPS and accelerometer.
Note that speeds taken from wheel sensors can be problematic and inaccuracte – for example under heavy braking you will get slippage of the tyre which can cause errors.
VERY IMPORTANT: if you choose to use wheel speed in the speed calculations, and there is a problem with the wheel speed calculation then it will cause problems!! Be absolutely sure that before using this it is correctly set up and reading correctly!! There is information on setting up wheel speed in the software here.
