Reflash Issues DL1 MK1

Postby Web35 » Thu May 19, 2011 3:54 pm

While trying to reflash my MK1 DL1 (with 2 green connector strips) the process gets to "you have 20 seconds to turn the unit on" and then the program freezes with "Program not responding". I have found (through the Forum) the reflash hex file on line and downloaded it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled V7; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the USB to Serial adapter. My Vista laptop recognizes the adapter and states that it is working correctly. What am I missing?

Load the firmware onto a clean CF card and power the unit with the card already inserted.

Not an option for reflashing Mk1 or Mk2 DL1s as far as I am aware?
Has to be done via the serial port.

PS: Web35, worth checking the serial link is working OK with Monitor program (you should see data being streamed from the DL1)

Update

Postby Web35 » Fri May 20, 2011 1:37 pm

It seems to be something to do with my HP laptop/Vista. I pulled out an ancient Gateway with XP, loaded the driver for the USB adapter, downloaded V7 and everything worked, albeit slow. So I've accomplished my reflashing task but now need a USB adapter that will work with my HP/Vista.

Thanks for your inputs.

What I've Found

Postby Web35 » Wed Jun 01, 2011 11:27 pm

To close this out, I'll update with what I've found. There are a couple chip makers for the USB to Serial port adapters. In my case the Prolific chip would not work with Vista. The FTDI chip works like a champ! I'm using the Cables Unlimited USB-2920 adapter with no problems now.

There is one driver for the prolific chip that works, and it is on someone's blog. All of the drivers provided by the company do not work.
If someone really needs it, I can search for the link.

^Bikey - if you could locate that file, I would greatly appreciate it!

I am striking out at all of the local electronics stores for an adapter that doesn't use the prolific....

I have used these drivers with a couple of "Prolific-chip" adapters on several different computers. Good luck!

I wonder why I could not attach that file directly to the message?

I recently reflashed my DL-1 using the drivers in the above post. The drivers worked, in that Win7 recognized the USB to serial adapter.
The actual reflash was a battle - it took 30+ attempts to successfully flash the unit as the flash would fail at various stages of completion (including well into the 90% range a few times).
Might be a better idea to just get a serial card.

Ditto to all the above. Bricked my DASH2, but those drivers worked. Didn't take 30 tries, but I held my breath through #6 and it worked.
