DL1 Power On with CF Card In?

I have a DL1 and when I power on the unit with the CF card in it doesn't see the card, but when I take the card out then plug in the power and then put in the card it is fine. Is this normal? I'm getting ready to wire in a remote power and hard wire the unit, but don't want to have to get out to put the card in after I have started the unit.
