VOB / VariableScaling

Variable Scaling

For many of the inputs, the scaling required to display the values in the desired units is simply multiplication by a scaling factor (for example conversion from cm/s to mph). However, the output of many sensors such as thermocouples, air pressure sensors etc. are often non-linear and this screen provides the opportunity to compensate for this non-linearity by selecting the correct coefficients for entry into the polynomial. By default, the conversion factors for common conversions are already set (cm/s to mph for example ).

Each of the available variables can be selected from a drop down list:

The options associated with each variable can then be altered.

  • Channel Name - the descriptive label displayed on the VOB when the long variable display option is selected.
  • Channel Abbreviation - the descriptive label displayed on the VOB when the short variable or bargraph display option is selected.
  • Channel Units - the units to be displayed where appropriate for that channel.
  • Decimal Places - controls the position of the decimal point on the numerical values displayed.
  • High/Low Alarm Values - As the name suggests, these are the values above and below which the VOB will display a visual alarm.

Please note, the exceptions to the High/Low Alarm Values are the X and Y position Channels. The X and Y position channels are not checked for alarm values.

When you set an alarm for a variable, the VOB will display the warning across the top, telling you which variable has reached the alarm value, and what it's current value for that variable is.
