InstallingTheVIDEO4 / ConnectingAMicrophone

Connecting a microphone

Make sure the unit is not powered. Connect the audio input to the VIDEO4 and power up the unit.

Suitable microphones

The VIDEO4 is designed to work from any line level source with a maximum peak to peak voltage of around 1v. Note that most “standard” microphones only have a very lower output (of a few mV) and will not work with the VIDEO4, you must use one that includes an amplifier.

Also note that in-car audio, and especially audio from race cars can be a very difficult environment for audio recording and we strongly recommend that you use the Race Technology microphone for best results. When developing the microphone we did extensive testing and optimised the automatic gain control and frequency response to get the best results. If you use a standard microphone you will probably find that results in a quiet home or office environment are good, but in car results disappointing due to the background noise.
